Will I get my own locker?
Yes, but many choose to locker with a friend.
Is there a grade 9 initiation?
There is an organized Frosh Friday in the first week of school…..anything else is bullying!
What do I have to do to get on a bus list ?
The transportation department or the bus company will be in touch with you in the last week of the summer. If you have recently moved to the area, please confirm online at http://www.ucdsb.on.ca/transportation/index.htm or by phone at 1-800-818-3679
How long is the lunch break ?
Lunch runs from 11:20am-12:05pm
May I go to Timmy’s/BK/MickeyD’s for lunch ?
Many students choose to access these eateries at lunch with permission from their parent/guardian.
Where do I eat lunch ?
The cafeteria and select classrooms are available for students who bring or purchase their lunch.
Is there a Breakfast Program at SGDHS ?
Yes! We have food and clothing available for students. Student services can help you access this service.
Do the teachers check your homework ?
Yes!
Is there lots of homework ?
The amount of homework varies based on the course
and level.
Is there a difference between MSIP work and homework ?
Yes! You will be assigned specific work, in each course, for completion in MSIP.
What if I get lost the first day?
The Giant Fusion kids(student leaders) will have their shirts on for easy recognition, they will take you to your next class if you ask for help. Any teacher will guide you, or come to student services and we will get you to your next class.
What if am I late on the first day ?
Your teacher will understand how confusing it is the first week.
What if I am absent one day ?
You are to bring a note to school. All notes are to be taken to the main office before school starts. You will be issued an admit slip. No slip, no entry!
Can my parents contact me during the day ?
There is a student message board in the main office. All messages will be posted on it.
May I use my cellphone at school ?
No! Due to the misuse of cell phones, none are permitted at school.
Do we get agendas this year ?
Yes! It is included in your student card fee. All students are required to use them . Parents and teachers are to communicate a minimum of once per week in them
What are the grade 9 user fees ?
Art has a $12 fee, French charges $12 for your ‘cahier’, Food & Nutrition the fee is between $10-$15, Math recommends a scientific calculator (we provide graphing calculators when needed), however, academic students likely to pursue sr. “U” math may choose to purchase a TI83 plus graphing calculator.
Do you change clothes for gym ?
Yes! It is required. If you are not willing to change, don’t take gym.
